The Illustrated Gospel of Matthew offers a uniquely visual and welcoming way to experience the full Gospel. Each page contains a short passage, accompanied by a beautiful illustration drawing on the rich themes found in the text, gently leading the reader through the Gospel as they encounter Jesus' story for the first time.

Deepen contemplation for those already familiar with the Gospel

Rediscover an ancient way of reading the Word of God, where word and image meet. Through rich visual symbolism and thoughtful design woven alongside the full Gospel text, this book invites slower, deeper reflection and a more immersive encounter with Scripture.

Meet the Artist

The Illustrated Gospel is a project-in-progress created by Oxfordshire-based Illustrator Lucy Hess. A dream to combine her love for all things creative with her passion for Scripture led her to devote the past three years to creating this book.

Lucy has found God faithful, and seen amazing testimony of provision along the way. At the start of 2026 the Lord prompted her to lay down all other paid work, and devote herself to seeing this project through to completion. Her prayer is that many would encounter Jesus through The Illustrated Gospel of Matthew and be blessed by the work she has to offer.
